KAPETANIANÁ

Arriving at the remote village of Mt Asterousia, located underneath its 1231m peak, Kofinas.

Kapetanianá are overlooking the Libyan Sea. It seems that the village was founded around 1770 by settlers from the village of Asféntou -in the area of Sfakia, who sought refuge on the mountains after the Daskalogiannis rebellion against the Ottoman authorities.
Many of them were leaders (captains) of the rebellion, thus the village took the name Capetanianá.
